Centre asks to give Supreme Court power point presentation on Aadhaar

The government of India has asked to give the Supreme Court a power point presentation on the Aadhaar programme. 

The presentation, should the court accept the proposition, will be given by the CEO, Dr Ajay Bhushan Pandey, of the UIDAI. The Unique Identification Authority of India is the body rolling out the programme. 

The programme aims to give every single India a unique identification number, but it has gathered plenty of opposition. 

The aim of the presentation is to allay those concerns. 

The Chief Justice of India responded to the request, saying he would fix a time after discussing the matter with the other judges on the bench hearing the cases against Aadhaar. 

"There are technical points related to surveillance, data security and exclusion," the court said. 

There were a number of petitions filed against the Aadhaar programme, with people saying that it is an invasion of privacy, and that it could be misused. 

The court had clubbed all the petitions, saying it would hear them together. 

Most recently, the court had extended — indefinitely, until its judgement was out — the date for the linking of Aadhaar numbers to cell phones, and bank accounts. 

The earlier date to do the aforesaid linking was March 31, 2018
