CBI registers Rs 97 crore loan default case against sugar company

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Sunday registered a Rs 97-cr loan default case against Simbhaoli Sugars Ltd in based in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.

The case was also registered against its Chief Managing Director Gurmit Singh Mann, Deputy Managing Director Gurupal Singh and others, officials told PTI.

The CBI is carrying out searches at multiple locations in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh in connection with case against Simbhaoli Sugars Ltd, officials added.

The CBI registered a case on complaint from the Oriental Bank of Commerce against the private sugar company.

The case follows the Rs 3,695-crore loan default case involving Rotomac owner Vikram Kothari and his son Rahul.

Billionaire jewellery designer Nirav Modi and his uncle and business partner Mehul Choksi are an accused in a Rs 11,400 bank involving the Punjab National Bank. The case against them is for acquired fraudulent letters of undertaking from one of its branches for overseas credit from other Indian lenders.
