CBI crisis: Supreme Court to give preliminary CVC report to Alok Verma in sealed cover

Supreme Court today commenced hearing on Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) director Alok Verma's plea challenging the government's order relieving him of his duties. 

The court refused to give the inquiry report to CBI special director Rakesh Asthana who had requested the document be given to him.

The Supreme Court said the Central Vigilance Commission(CVC) report is "very uncomplimentary" on some charges against Alok Verma and on some of it says further probe is needed.

The top court proposed to provide Alok Verma with preliminary CVC probe report in a sealed cover. He was asked to file his reply in a sealed cover by the court. 

India's highest court said the CVC report on Alok Verma will also be given to Attorney General K K Venugopal and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta. 

The Supreme court declared that the confidentiality of CVC report needed to be protected to restore public confidence in the CBI and sanctity of the investigating agency.

Supreme Court has fixed the matter for further hearing on November 20th.
