Cauvery water dispute: DMK announces shutdown across Tamil Nadu on April 5

In the wake of the ongoing Cauvery water dispute, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has announced a state-wide shutdown to be observed on 5 April. Party leaders also expressed their desire to seek support from the ruling party, AIADMK. 

DMK chief MK Stalin was quoted earlier today saying that the party "will show black flags to the Prime Minister and Union Minister when they visit". 

"Will also take out Cauvery rights retrieval walk from delta area," Stalin noted. 

DMK held an all-party meeting to discuss the Cauvery water dispute earlier today in the presence of party chief Stalin.

AIADMK party members, on the other hand, have decided to observe fast across Tamil Nadu on April 3 with an aim to urge the government to form the management board.

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu government filed a contempt petition against the Centre in the ongoing Cauvery river water issue yesterday. The Palaniswami-led government has been urging the Centre to set up the Cauvery Management Board (CMB) in order to find a solution to the dispute.

Actor turned politician Kamal Haasan also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to set up Cauvery Management Board (CMB) in order to find a solution to the Cauvery water dispute on Thursday.
