Burhan Wani's death anniversary: Internet services suspended in parts of South Kashmir

In a precautionary measure, all internet services were snapped on Sunday in parts of South Kashmir area. The move comes after a shutdown was called by separatists to mark the third death anniversary of Hizbul Commander Burhan Wani.

The areas where the internet has been suspended include Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam and Shopian districts.

Burhan Wani, a resident of Tral, was killed in an encounter with security forces in the Kokernag area of south Kashmir's Anantnag district on 8 July, 2016. 

His killing triggered massive protests and a prolonged period of curfews and shutdowns across the Valley. 

As many as 85 people were killed and a thousand others were injured in clashes between security forces and protesters which continued for over four months.

On Sunday, security was also beefed up in the area by authorities. Heavy deployments of security forces have been made all along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway which passes through three south Kashmir districts of Kulgam, Anantnag and Pulwama.
