BJP tells Congress 'not to rejoice' after two of its MLAs back Kamal Nath government

A day after two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs backed the Kamal Nath government during voting on Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, Leader of the Opposition in Assembly senior BJP leader Gopal Bhargava on Thursday asked Congress not to rejoice over the development.
"They should not boast. They should bring a trust vote to prove their majority," Bhargava added.
On Wednesday, two BJP MLAs - Narayan Tripathi and Sharad Kaul - voted in support of Criminal Law (Madhya Pradesh Amendment) Bill, 2019, when it was put to vote.
"Today's voting was not just for the bill but it was to prove the majority of the government. Even two BJP MLAs have supported Congress today. I welcome their decision, they listened to their conscience today. The 122 votes polled in favour of the bill proves that the Congress government is a majority government," Kamal Nath said on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Shivraj Singh Chauhan said that BJP should not be held responsible if Congress government in Madhya Pradesh faced the same fate as Karnataka government
"There is an internal conflict in Congress, and support of BSP-SP, if something happens to that then we can't do anything," he said.
"We will not cause the fall of government here (Madhya Pradesh). Congress leaders themselves have been responsible for the fall of their governments," the former chief minister Singh said.
Reacting to Chauhan's remarks, Nath asserted that none of his MLAs were for sale.
"None of the MLAs sitting here are for sale. Kamal Nath's government will run for five years in full force." "If you wish, you can move no-confidence motion," Nath told the BJP MLAs in the state Assembly.
