Bihar: Death toll due to floods rises to 73 as water starts to recede

The death toll due to incessant rainfall and floods in different parts of Bihar rose to 73, news agency ANI reported on Thursday. At least nine people are also reported to be injured.

According to the report, the clogged rainwater has begun to recede from several areas of the city.

"The level of water has decreased. We have deployed pumps to drain out water. There is a danger of epidemic due to filth. The water level in the river has increased. The administration has deployed NDRF and SDRF teams," ANI quoted District Magistrate Ravi Kumar as saying.

According to a statement by the National Disaster Response Force, the rescue teams evacuated around nine thousand people from the area. 

The teams are also helping district authorities in providing essential supplies like food, medicines, drinking water to the people through NDRF boats while 2 medical teams are providing medical assistance to needy.

According to the report, Bihar is still under the deluge, an Orange Alert has been issued for Patna, Vaishali, Begusarai, and Khagaria districts for October 3 and 4, as these areas are expected to receive heavy rainfall.
