At least 31 dead due to thunderstorm in Bihar; rain, hailstorm likely in Uttar Pradesh

The state disaster management department has been collecting data from districts in Bihar about the details of the loss of lives.

In Uttar Pradesh, Kanpur, Rai Barelli, Unno have been severely affected due to severe weather conditions. The meteorological department said thunderstorm accompanied with rain and hail storm is likely to occur today during the next 3 hours over some areas in Sitapur, Farrukhabad districts & adjoining areas.

India has been in the grip of a severe heatwave with Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat reeling under hot and humid conditions.

On Monday, Delhi recorded 43.5 degrees Celsius which was three degrees above normal.

On Sunday, day temperatures was above normal in Allahabad,  Agra, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Faizabad, Kanpur, Lucknow, Bareilly, Moradabad and Jhansi, according to the MeT department.

Rains/thunderstorm are likely to occur at isolated places in east Uttar Pradesh on May 29, while the weather is likely to remain dry in west UP, the Met department said with isolated rains and thunderstorm likely on May 30 and May 31st.
