Anna Hazare calls off indefinite hunger strike after Maharashtra CM accepts demand

Social activist Anna Hazare on Tuesday called off his fast in Ralegan Siddhi, Ahmednagar. Hazare's move came after Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that a new Lokpal bill will be prepared and introduced in the next session.
"We have decided that the Lokpal search committee will meet on 13 February and the directions of the Supreme Court will be followed. A joint drafting committee has been set up, it will prepare a new bill and we will introduce it in next session," Fadnavis stated.

Hazare was on a fast since last Wednesday demanding the formation of Lokpal at the Centre and Lokayuktas in the states.

On Sunday, Hazare warned that if the Narendra Modi government did not fulfil its promises, he would return his Padma Bhushan.
"If this government does not fulfil its promises made to the country in the next few days, I will return my Padma Bhushan," he told PTI Sunday evening.
Hazare began his hunger strike last Wednesday at his native Ralegan Siddhi village in Maharashtra's Ahmednagar district, demanding appointments of Lokpal and Lokayuktas and resolution of farmers' issue.
Hazare's demands include the immediate appointment of anti-corruption ombudsmen Lokpal at the Centre and Lokayuktas in states, implementation of Swaminathan Commission's recommendations for tackling agrarian distress and electoral reforms, news agency PTI reported.
