According to reports, a boat carrying around 40 people capsized in Godavari River in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday.

At least 17 people have been rescued while 23 people are still missing. 

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams from Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam, and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams from Kakinada & Visakhapatnam have been deployed for rescue operations. More details are awaited.

Last Friday, passengers on a river cruise to Papikondalu Hills in Andhra Pradesh had a narrow escape after the boat caught fire.

The driver of the boat successfully steered the boat to safety and passengers were rescued. 

The double-decker boat was carrying at least 80 passengers to Papikondalu Hills. Reports suggest a short circuit triggered the fire.
