Amid Unlock 1.0, India reports highest single-day COVID-19 cases; death toll over 7,000

India reported 9,983 new coronavirus cases which is the highest single-day spike with 206 deaths in the last 24 hours, the health ministry said.

The health ministry said that the death toll in the country due to COVID-19 has risen to 7,135.

As India began to relax its lockdown, the national capital opened its borders with neighbouring states including Gurugram. Delhi's Jama Masjid also reopened today for devotees.

The Puducherry government on Monday reported 128 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the number of active cases to 75. 

In Madhya Pradesh's Indore there were 36 people confirmed with the virus with the total number of cases rising to 3,785 in the state with the death toll rising to 157.

Bhopal's authorities said that shopping malls, hotels, and restaurants situated outside containment zones can open from today.

In Chattisgarh 73 new coronavirus were reported with the number of cases rising to 1,073. The state health department there are 803 active cases.
