Amethi: Rahul Gandhi's family bastion falls to BJP in UP civic falls

BJP which swept the Uttar Pradesh civic polls won a politically significant seat today - Amethi, which is the parliamentary constituency of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi.

BJP's Chandrama Devi clinched the Amethi Nagar Panchayat by 1,035 votes in Rahul Gandhi's family bastion.

Polling was held for 16 nagar nigams, 198 nagar palika parishads and 438 nagar panchayats today. 

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath had undertaken a whirlwind campaign criss-crossing the state to power the BJP, however, the opposition leaders did not campaign much with SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and BSP supremo Mayawati staying away. 

Rahul Gandhi's twitter handle had no reference to the UP civic polls even though it generated a lot of political heat throughout the day.
