With hopes to expand its product line under its private label, Amazon India is ready to launch a smartphone under their brand name 'Tenor' in January, reports said.

The e-commerce giant had previously also launched two smartphones under the same brand - Tenor E and G - just a few months prior to its competition Flipkart who introduced their smartphone 'Billion'.

The current situation of private label market in India for smartphone is in its early stages.

The company follows a strategy of looking into customer data, pricing, selection and reach out to vendors to manufacture the right kind of products - calling it 'Crafted for Amazon'.

According to Amazon, the focus will primarily be on targeting the local, low-brand and mid-brand strengths of smartphones which constitutes almost 20% of the total market, making it a $2-billion opportunity for the private lables.

Amazon presently has private labels called Solimo, Symbol and Myx for categories like staples, fashion and electronic accessories.

Even worldwide, the retail company has also been doubling down it own label as the Indian arm continues to bring out more products in categories like fashion, accessories, and home.
