Calling herself a "stubborn lady", actor-politician Jaya Bachchan on Tuesday refused to comment on Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Agrawal referring to her as one of "those those who dance and work in films."

Asked about Naresh Agrawal's comment on her, Jaya Bachchan said, "I am a stubborn lady, I will not answer."

Former Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Naresh Agrawal joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday.

The miffed Rajya Sabha MP, who lost out in the race for re-nomination to the Upper House to Jaya Bachchan had said, "I have been compared with those who dance and work in films."

Naresh Agrawal later apologised for his remark against the Samajwadi Party leader.

"Agar meri kisi baat se kisi ko thes pahuchi hai toh main khed vyakt karta hun (If something that I said has hurt anyone then I express my regret)," said Agarwal.

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra had distanced his party from Agarwal's remarks, saying it respects people from all fields and welcomed them in politics.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had condemned Agarwal's remark on Twitter, saying he was welcome in the party but his comments regarding Jaya Bachchan were "improper and unacceptable".

Jaya Bachchan has once again been nominated to the upper house by the Samajwadi Party.

The term of Naresh Agrawal, whose remarks in the House mocking Hindu gods had sparked an uproar last year, as Rajya Sabha member ends on April 2.
