The RBI has so far issued Rs 10 coins in 14 designs.

There had been reports earlier of people refusing to accept the new coins, because of rumours that they were not legal tender.

Shopkeepers, vendors, bus conductors, and even railway counters have reportedly rejected some of the 10-rupee coins saying that only the coins with the rupee symbol on them are legal tender. (As have panhandlers.)

There had also been reports of people going to their banks to exchange the coins in return for notes.

The issue reportedly started with Prime Minister Narendra Modi announcing his demonetisation in November 2016.
