Aircel-Maxis case: Chidambaram describes CBI's allegations 'unfounded'

Former Union Minister and Congress P Chidambaram in his rejoinder in the Aircel-Maxis case stated that no offence was committed in the grant of FIPB (Foreign Investment Promotion Board) approval. 

"Approval was granted on basis of deliberation in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board and recommendations of the FIPB that was put up to the Finance Minister (P Chidambaram) in the Normal course of official business," the reply further said. 

He ruled out CBI's charges of ''illegal gratification'' and ''conspiracy''.

Describing CBI's allegations ''unfounded'', the former finance minister said ''CBI had no hesitation in making false allegations against me and summoning me for questioning''.

Chidambaram called CBI allegation that the applicant is an influential person and may influence witnesses and tamper with evidence, he said, "above contentions of CBI is false, speculative, bereft of the details and untenable."
