More than 140 AIADMK leaders from the Tuticorin district have been sacked by party's convenor O Panneerselvam and Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister K Palaniswami today.

The members have been expelled for bringing 'disrepute' to the organization.

The two leaders issued a joint statement announcing the expulsion of 144 office-bearers from the party's different organizational units in Tuticorin.

The party members have been instructed not to have any ties with the expelled leaders.

In August 2017, Palaniswami and Panneerselvam merged their respective factions. Party members were previously warned of action against those who would go against the party.

AIADMK lost the RK Nagar assembly bypoll to TTV Dhinakaran on December 21, 2017.

The party had expelled a number of functionaries and key aides of Dhinakaran previously.
