Just days after Congress was beaten in the Gujarat polls, Rahul Gandhi arrived at Keshod airport to visit Gujarat's Somnath temple and attend a meeting with newly-elected MLAs.

Congress had bagged 77 seats in the recently concluded Gujarat elections which was hailed as a "victory" by the party since it was the best showing by the Congress in decades.

During the polls, Rahul Gandhi had visited a number of temples in Gujarat including the Chotila temple, Khodaldham in Kagvad, Jalaram Bapa temple in Virpur and Dasi Jivan temple near Jasdan, among several others.

The Congress president had visited the Dwarkadhish Temple in September to seek blessings of Lord Krishna as he kicked off the Gujarat campaign.

The Congress president is also expected to meet the new MLAs as the Congress sets out his strategy to take on the ruling BJP in the next five years.

The BJP had announced yesterday that Vijay Rupani will continue as chief minister of Gujarat.

Ahead of his visit, Rahul Gandhi took a dig at the BJP, tweeting: "If BJP had a film franchise it would be called Lie Hard."

The BJP and Congress were involved in a bitter war of words during the Gujarat polls, after the election results were announced Rahul Gandhi slammed the BJP claiming its entire structure was based on lies while addressing the Congress Working Committee meeting.

The Congress president said "If you see the Modi model in Gujarat it was a clear lie, when we went to Gujarat the people said there is no model, they said what is going on is stealing of people's resources."
