Over 300 Army personnel have moved the Supreme Court challenging the registration of an FIR against them.

The Army personnel said the Armed Forces Special Powers Act was in effect in the areas they were operating in.

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear their plea on August 20.

The controversial AFSPA gives the armed forces immunity from prosecution by a local court.

Permission for their prosecution has to be taken from the ministry of defence. So far, no permissions have been given

AFSPA is currently in place in Kashmir and parts of the Northeast.
