A day after resigning from cabinet, TMC leader Sovan Chatterjee quits as Kolkata Mayor

Mayor of Kolkata Municipal Corporation, Sovan Chatterjee, resigned from his post on Thursday, a day after he resigned as West Bengal Fire and Emergency Services and Housing minister. 

Earlier chief minister and the party chairperson Mamata Banerjee had asked Chatterjee to quit his post. 

Once a close confidant of TMC chief fell from grace after his public life became a subject of public attention. 

“We thought that he would realise [his mistakes],” the Chief Minister said on Tuesday.  A report quoting Chatterjee’s wife stated that the chief minister had tried to make her husband mend his ways but he apparently remained adamant.
