66 more bank accounts of Gitanjali Group frozen: Sources

The income tax department has attached 66 more bank accounts of the Mehul Choksi-owned Gitanjali Group having a total credit balance of Rs 80.07 crores, I-T sources said on Monday. 

A search and survey action was initiated at four locations of Mehul Choksi's uncle and business partner Nirav Modi in Mumbai on February 22, I-T sources said.

At one location, 173 paintings and artworks by eminent artists were found and are currently undergoing valuation by professionals.

Mehul Choksi and Nirav Modi are accused of cheating the Punjab National Bank (PNB) of Rs 11,400 crore, with the purported involvement of a few employees of the bank.

They are currently being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate and other probe agencies following a complaint by the nationalised bank.
