7 die as 9 coaches of Seemanchal Express derail in Bihar

Seven people have lost their lives after nine coaches of the Delhi-bound Seemanchal Express derailed in Vaishali district of Bihar, PTI reported quoting railway officials.

The accident took place at 3:58 am in Sahadai Buzurg, they added.

One general coach, one AC coach B3, three sleeper coaches -S8, S9, S10 and four more coaches have derailed, said East Central Railway spokesperson Rajesh Kumar.

A report quoting officials said six people have died in the train accident.

The 12487 Jogbani-Anand Vihar Terminal Seemanchal Express was running at full speed when the accident took place, the officials said.

In a statement, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal office said that rescue and relief operations were on for derailment of nine coaches of Jogbani-Anand Vihar Terminal Seemanchal express at Sahadai Buzurg.  

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also expressed grief over the accident and directed the administration to provide all kind of assistance.

Smita Vats Sharma, Additional Director General PR (Rail) said they were focusing on rescue and relief operations. Railway Accident Medical Van along with a team of doctors are at the site, she said and added, two teams of NDRF have also reached the spot.

The Railways has also issued help line numbers: Sonpur 06158221645, Hajipur 06224272230 and Barauni 06279232222.
