As coronavirus cases in the national capital continued to rise, Delhi's deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia said that "by July 31, 5.5 lakh COVID-19 cases are expected with  80,000 beds needed."

"By 15 June, there will be 44,000 cases and 6,600 beds will be needed. By 30 June we will reach 1 lakh cases and 15,000 beds will be required," Sisodia said, adding, "by 15 July there will be 2.25 lakh cases and 33,000 beds will be needed."

India's capital had reported over 1,000 cases and 17 deaths in the past 24 hours on Monday, with the total number of infected cases rising to 29,943. There have been 874 fatalities due to the virus in Delhi.

Coronavirus in Delhi

Sisodia added that there is "no community spread in Delhi" while adding that Delhi LG Anil Baijal had refused to reconsider his decision to overrule Delhi government's order reserving state-run and private hospitals for Delhiites.

Meanwhile, authorities took samples of Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal who had quarantined himself after the CM showed coronavirus symptoms.

Delhi's health minister Satyendar Jain had earlier said that "the beds in private hospitals would cater to patients up to 15 days but most of the beds reserved for coronavirus patients have been used in 4-5 days."
