Supreme Court on Monday ordered the setting up of a high powered committee to look into the matter regarding restoration of 4G services in Jammu and Kashmir. The Committee will be headed by the MHA Secretary.

The apex court passed this order while delivering its judgement on various pleas for restoration of 4G internet services in Jammu and Kashmir. The pleas claimed that the 2G services are not sufficient enough to conduct education and other services.

''This court has to ensure that national security and human rights are balanced. We do recognize that UT has plunged into crisis. At the same time court is cognizant to the concerns related to ongoing pandemic and hardships,'' Justice NV Ramana said while passing the order.

Internet service was stopped in J&K on August 5 last year and was restored in phases in the second week of January. At present, only 2G mobile internet is allowed. However, internet on the fixed-line broadband services is working normally.
