2G mobile internet restored in some parts of Jammu and Kashmir

The announcement on restoring 2G mobile internet comes three days after the Supreme Court said it will wait for the normalcy to return.

A day after Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam announced measures to ease restrictions in valley, 2G mobile internet services have been restored in Jammu, Reasi, Samba, Kathua and Udhampur, reported news agency ANI.

Subrahmanyam said that schools and offices will resume from Monday while government offices have already been made operational from Friday.

He also talked about the resumption of telephone lines in phases.

The announcement on restoring 2G mobile internet comes four days after the Supreme Court said it will wait for the normalcy to return.

Centre, last week, abolished Article 370 and moved a separate bill to bifurcate the state into two separate union territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

Since then, the state had been under lockdown and security forces were put on maximum alert to "pre-empt" and "prevent" any breach of security.
