2001 Parliament attack: PM Modi, other leaders pay floral tribute to martyrs

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu paid floral tribute to the martyrs of 2001 parliament attack at Parliament House today.
Among the other leaders who paid tribute on the 17th anniversary of the attack were, home minister Rajnath Singh, finance minister Arun Jaitley, Congress President Rahul Gandhi and Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi also saluted the courage of those killed in the terrorist attack, saying their valour encourages people.
Modi took to Twitter to recall the courage of the security personnel.
"We salute the valour of those who were martyred during the dastardly attack on our Parliament on this day in 2001. Their courage and heroism inspires every Indian," he said.

President Ram Nath Kovind also paid tribute to the soldiers martyred in the terrorist attack on Twitter writing, "Forces of hate and terror targeted what we cherish most — India's democracy and democratic values."

On December 13, 2001, five gunmen stormed the Parliament complex and opened indiscriminate fire.
Five Delhi Police personnel, a woman Central Reserve Police official, two Parliament watch and ward staff, a gardener and a camera person were among those who killed in the attack.
