10 Naxals including top leader killed in Chhattisgarh, 1 policeman dead

At least 10 Naxals including six women were gunned down in an encounter with security forces in forests in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district. The gun-battle took place in Pujari Kanker in Bijapur district when a joint team of Telangana and Chhattisgarh Police was on an anti-Maoist operation in the area.

One policeman, who suffered injuries during the gun battle, later died.

Hari Bushan, a senior Maoist leader, is suspected to be among those killed in the encounter. “10 Naxals have been killed in an operation by security personnel in Pujari Kanker in Bijapur district,” DM Awasthi, Special DG (Naxal Operations) told news agency ANI. A policeman was also injured during the gun-battle.

The bodies of slain Naxals are being shifted to the government hospital at Bhadarachalam in Kothagudem district of Telangana. Further details were awaited.
