Congratulating BJP's Smriti Irani for her victory in Amethi, he said people of Amethi had given their mandate. 

Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said that he respects people's verdict as he conceded defeat in the Lok Sabha election.

Addressing a press conference as Modi's government returned to power with a thumping majority, Rahul Gandhi said people of India decided Narendra Modi will be the Prime Minister and ''I respect their verdict''. 

''I congratulate PM Modi and the BJP for their win,''  the Congress president said. 

''Our fight is ideological, he said and added there are two ideologies - one followed by Mr Narendra Modi and the other one followed by the Congress party. 

The Congress president asked the people not to be scared as ''we are there''.

Congratulating BJP's Smriti Irani for her victory in Amethi, he said people of Amethi had given their mandate. 

Public is the boss, and through this mandate, it has given its order, he added.
