Story highlights

The prime minister lashed out at the Congress and said that 'if you want votes in the name of someone's legacy then you must be ready to answer questions as well'.

In an exclusive interview with WION Editor-in-Chief Sudhir Chaudhary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reacted over his recent remark on former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi. He said that he had "given factual information" and nothing else.

The prime minister lashed out at the Congress party and said that "if you want votes in the name of someone's legacy then you must be ready to answer questions as well".

The incidents that happened during a prime minister's tenure, won't those be discussed?" the prime minister enquired adding that "I have not made any allegations on anyone".

"You are answerable and you will have to answer questions... on the Bhopal gas tragedy, on the Bofors defence deal," the PM said.

Last week, PM Modi had targeted the former prime minister while attacking Congress chief Rahul Gandhi.

"Your father (Rajiv Gandhi) was termed Mr Clean by his courtiers, but his life ended as bhrashtachari No 1," Modi had said during a rally in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.

Responding to PM Modi's comments Rahul Gandhi had tweeted, "Modi Ji, the battle is over. Your Karma awaits you. Projecting your inner beliefs about yourself onto my father won't protect you. All my love and a huge hug".

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Sunday wondered why Congress president Rahul Gandhi gets disturbed when integrity issues of his late father Rajiv Gandhi-led government are raised and the 'Q' connection in the Bofors gun-deal is questioned.
