Swedish prosecutors likely to announce decision on re-opening Julian Assange rape case today

Swedish prosecutors today will announce whether they are reviving an investigation into a rape allegation against WikiLeaks co-founder Julian Assange, who is as of now stopped at a high-security jail in the UK, the Swedish Prosecution Authority said in a statement.

Sweden's Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Eva-Marie Persson, will declare her decision on whether to return to the rape investigation after it was dropped two years back. 

According to media reports the lady who made the claim presently wants the case revived, and since Assange's capture a month ago, Swedish examiners have been thinking about their options.

Assange was arrested in April at the Ecuadoran embassy in London, where he spent seven years after seeking asylum. 

He sought refuge there to escape extradition to Sweden, where he had been accused of rape and sexual assault.

Assange is now serving a 50-week sentence in Britain for jumping bail and is contesting an extradition request from the United States, where he is wanted for hacking.
