Watch: Miley Cyrus gives a feminist spin to Christmas carol 'Santa Baby'

It's Christmas and singing carols is a must. But the songs that have been sung for time immemorial may not always have the right wording. With the changing times, where everyone is far more aware of rights and gender equality, lyrics of old carols appear a bit jaded. So why not just upgrade the lyrics which are best suited for the present times?

Miley Cyrus, during an appearance on the popular chat show 'The Jimmy Fallon Show', decided to upgrade the lyrics of popular Christmas carol 'Santa Baby'. The song has been in the centre of a raging controversy after a radio station in Cleveland initially announced it would not play the song following complaints from users that it was inappropriate in the #MeToo era. The decision triggered a debate about whether the lyrics were indeed misogynistic.

Perhaps in a bid to settle the debate once and for all, Cyrus took up the song during her appearance on the chat show. The song has Cyrus singing about equal pay and end of sexual harassment at workplace. The video also features host Jimmy Fallon and producer Mark Ronson. 

The original song was written by Frank Loesser in 1944, and the lyrics described a man persuading his date to spend the night even though she repeatedly tried to leave. 
Many interpreted the lyrics as an actor of manipulation and sexual coercion. Here is the original version performed by Eartha Kitt in 1953.
