Story highlights

The film has surpassed the first-day earnings of Salman Khan's 2015 Diwali release 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' which earned Rs 39.32 crores.

This year's Diwali release, 'Thugs Of Hindostan', may have been panned by the critics, but the film has got the highest opening ever. On its first day, the film earned a whopping Rs 50 crores.

The film has surpassed the first-day earnings of Salman Khan's 2015 Diwali release 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' which earned Rs 39.32 crores.  According to a trade magazine, the film has been the best-ever Diwali release in the last 40 years.

Interestingly, while the cash registers have been ringing, the film was panned by most critics for its predictable story and mediocre performances.

As per the report in the magazine, the film, produced by YRF, has recorded the third highest pre-sales of all time with around Rs 27.50 crore net. It is the first Bollywood film to have got such advance tickets sale. Before this 'Baahubali: The Conclusion' and 'Avengers: Infinity War' have recorded such high advance sales.

While an official statement from YRF indicates that the film has earned an approximate Rs 50 crores on the first day, it should be noted that the ticket prices for the film had been hiked across cinemas.
