Story highlights

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas tied the knot on December 1 in Jodhpur, India after a whirlwind romance that spanned a couple of months. An article published in a New York-based magazine (that has now been deleted) called Priyanka a 'scam artist' and asked Nick to run, facing major backlash on the social media for being 'racist' and 'misogynist'.

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas got married on December 1 in Jodhpur, India at a heritage palace, in what can be called one of the most extravagant weddings of the year. See stunning photos of them during the ceremonies.

While the wedding was a much-celebrated event all over the world, with fans waiting to see the glam couple in their best attires on their big day; an article in New York Times’ The Cut magazine (now deleted), has drawn widespread condemnation for its ‘racist, misogynist’ take on the couple’s relationship. The newlywed actress Priyanka reacted to the story like a boss when she was asked during her first interview after marriage as she launched an app in New Delhi. At the event, she called it “random things” and said, “I don’t even want to react or comment. It’s not even in my stratosphere. I’m in a happy place at this moment. These kinds of random things can’t disturb it.”

Soon after, her brother-in-law Joe Jonas and sister-in-law Sophie Turner took to Twitter to bash the article and wrote:

Joe Jonas: “This is disgusting. @TheCut should be ashamed to have someone write such evil words. What Nick & Pri have is Beautiful Love. Thank u, Next.”

Sophie Turner: “This is wildly inappropriate and totally disgusting. Very disappointed that The Cut would give anyone a platform to spew such bullshit.”

As the article called Priyanka “global scam artist” whose PR machinery was looking out for a romance for her; celebrities came to the defence of the newlywed actress and bashed the writer for being  “sexist”, “racist”, “judgmental” and more.

Bollywood star Sonam Kapoor also launched a scathing attack and wrote:”For a publication that “shows women’s what they are made of” @TheCut has a lot to answer for. The article on @priyankachopra was sexist , racist and disgusting. Also it’s written by a woman which is so sad. It reeks of envy and bitterness. @mRiah shame on you!”

Arjun Kapoor tweeted: "I know @priyankachopra personally & I’m fairly certain @nickjonas hasn’t been kidnapped & forced into a union of love... @NYMag u have an unhappy opinionated racist frustrated journalist who’s gone on n on about 2 people who by choice have gotten married. Tacky n uncouth writing."

The article has been at the receiving end of a lot of online flak. The article has since been taken down. An editor’s note on the page says that the article has been removed as it did not meet up to their standards and they also issued an apology.

It read: “Last night, the Cut published a post about Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra’s relationship that shouldn’t have gone up. We’ve received dozens of messages from readers expressing their anger. We want you to know that we hear you and we’re sorry. The whole piece missed the mark. There is no good explanation for this other than human error and poor judgement. This was a mistake, and we apologize to our readers and to Priyanka and Nick.”
