Shahid Kapoor's 'Kabir Singh' is Google India’s most searched film of 2019, followed by 'Endgame'

In an announcement made by Google India as part of its year in review feature, ‘Kabir Singh’ made it to the list as the movie that grabbed the most number of eyeballs in search.

After becoming one of the most successful Hindi films this year according to box office numbers, Shahid Kapoor’s ‘Kabir Singh’ was also the most searched film of 2019 according to Google India. 

In an announcement made by Google India as part of its year in review feature, ‘Kabir Singh’ made it to the list as the movie that grabbed the most number of eyeballs in search. It was followed by Marvel superhero film ‘Avengers: Endgame’ that dominated the box office both globally and in India. The Marvel action superhero film also beat ‘Titanic’ and ‘Avatar’ to become the number 1 film, in terms of collections. It made Rs 450 crore in India and record-breaking $2.798 billion worldwide.

As for Shahid Kapoor-Kiara Advani’s film, ‘Kabir Singh’ made it to the headlines for its controversial plotline that many critics and fans called problematic as it promoted misogyny and glorified masculine toxicity. It, however, entertained the audience and collected Rs 380 crore worldwide. 

Three out of the top five most searched films of the year also happen to be Hollywood films namely ‘Joker’, ‘Captain Marvel’ and Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Super 30’.

Joaquin phoenix starrer ‘Joker’ made over a billion dollars worldwide, as did Brie Larson starrer ‘Captain Marvel’. 

With ‘Super 30’. Hrithik Roshan made a fabulous return to the game. His success charted new territories when Yash Raj banner ‘War’ with Tiger Shroff also became a huge success. ‘War’ landed on number eight spot on the Google India list. 

Number six position went to Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Mission Mangal’, then came Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt’s ‘Gully Boy’, that is also India’s official Oscar entry for this year. The top ten list was rounded with Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Housefull 4’ and Vicky Kaushal’s ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’. 

Google India also revealed that among the general news queries, searches were dominated by the Lok Sabha Elections, Chandrayaan 2, and Article 370.
