'Roma' house becomes Mexico City's latest tourist attraction after Oscar nod

Ever since Mexican film ‘Roma’ reached the various Hollywood awards’ platform and especially after getting nominated for Oscars best picture right after winning best picture in a foreign language at Golden Globes this year; it has seen a lot of positive reviews all around the world. 

Raising tourism for its city, a house on a suburban street in the Mexico City suburb of Roma has become a hit among people who have seen the film and want to see the location it was shot at. 

Those who are not aware, the Spanish-language film chronicles the life of a housekeeper and the family she works for in 1970s Mexico. The movie was filmed in black and white and was named after the neighbourhood in Mexico City where the writer, director and cinematographer Alfonso Cuaron grew up.

While the film focuses on one house, it reflects on the era’s political and cultural state. 

‘Roma’ has grabbed 10 Academy Award nominations in total, tying with ‘The Favourite’ as the year's most-nominated film.

The Mexican actress who stars in the film, Yalitza Aparicio, has also got a nomination in the Best Actress category. She became the first indigenous Mexican woman to get a Best Actress nod.
