Based on the life of scientist and aerospace engineer S Nambi Narayanan, the film ‘Rocketry: the Nambi Effect’ brings back our favourite R Madhavan to the screen. Helmed by National-Award winning director Ananth Mahadevan, the film’s teaser is finally out and we are intrigued!

The film will show Madhavan essaying the role of Nambi who introduced the liquid fuel rocket technology that led to India successfully sending a Mars mission in just one attempt while the USA took 19 attempts and Russia 16. What should have been a proud moment for India turned monstrous for the scientist himself who was falsely charged for espionage and was tried for the same.

Nambi Narayanan is an Indian scientist who was in charge of the cryogenics division with ISRO and was a pioneer in a space mission programme until he retired in 2001. After being accused by the police as well as CBI in 1994, all charges were subsequently dropped when the Kerala government failed to prove him guilty. He was given a compensation of 50 lakh rupees.

The teaser just revealed opens with a rocket launch establishing how India did what the USA and Russia took forever to do. It then rests on a guy who is held captive behind bars as he watches the rocket with sad eyes. No prize for guessing, it’s Madhavan himself.

The announcement of the film was made a year ago and Madhavan went through rigorous training to prepare for the role. Madhavan will get to portray the scientist over an age span of 27 to 75.

While talking about his role in an interview, Madhavan said that there are many personal stories in the world that people don’t know about, but there are few that if we don't know, then we know very less of our country’s history. He said that Nambi’s story is one such.

‘Rocketry: the Nambi Effect’ is a multilingual film. The teaser also released in Tamil, Hindi and English.
