As Rajini's '2.0' hits a high note with a worldwide audience today on its release date, re-release of 1995 hit film 'Muthu' directed by KS Ravikumar makes his Japanese fans rejoice.
Superstar Rajinikanth’s fans rejoice as his superhit film of the year 1995 titled ‘Muthu’ has been restored in 4K version and saw its world premiere on November 23 in Tokyo.
When it released in its original form, the film soon became a cult. ‘Muthu’ was titled ‘Odoru Maharaja’ meaning ‘Dancing Maharaja’ for the Japanese audience. It first released in Japan in October 1998 across 50 screens.
'Muthu' is important as its the first time when an Indian film that has been restored, has get a release outside the country. Directed by K S Ravikumar and produced by Kavithalayaa Productions, ‘Muthu’ will be released in other screens and cities in Japan by mid-December.
Announcing the same, Rajinikanth wished the people of Japan and welcomed them to watch the film. “This video will be played before the movie begins,” said Kandaswamy Bharathan, joint managing director, Kavithalayaa Productions. The video bytes given by the superstar will be used for promotions across Japanese TV and social media channels.
“We have restored the print in 4K and 5.1 CH surround. We went frame-by-frame and removed the glitches. We roped in a Mumbai-based firm for this purpose,” he added.
It took almost nine weeks to complete the entire process and give a new avatar to this movie.
The film was released in Tamil with subtitles in Japanese.
