Oscars 2019: Trump accuses Spike Lee of taking 'racist hit' at him

Director Spike Lee whose movie "BlacKkKlansman" was nominated for best picture at the Oscars attracted President Trump ire after he said at the acceptance speech for best-adapted screenplay as a co-writer for "BlacKkKlansman" "let's all mobilize, let's all be on the right side of history".

“Before the world tonight I give praise to our ancestors who built this country into what it is today along with the genocide of its native people. If we all connect with our ancestors we will have love, wisdom and regain our humanity. It will be a powerful moment.

“The 2020 presidential election is around the corner. Let’s all mobilise, let’s all be on the right side of history. Make the moral choice between love versus hate.”

“Let’s do the right thing! You know I had to get that in there,” he said.

President Trump hit out at Lee, in a tweet the US President said: "Be nice if Spike Lee could read his notes, or better yet not have to use notes at all, when doing his racist hit on your President."

"Who has done more for African Americans (Criminal Justice Reform, Lowest Unemployment numbers in History, Tax Cuts,etc.) than almost any other Pres!"

Reports said Lee appeared to storm out of the Oscars theatre after "Green Book" won the award, but later took his seat.

Lee appeared to turn his back to the stage during the acceptance speech made by Green Book winners, reports claimed.

“I’m snakebitten," he told reporters later, adding,"Every time someone is driving somebody, I lose."  Lee recalled that his movie "Do The Right Thing," had failed to earn a best picture nomination for the Oscars in 1989 in the same year it was won by "Driving Miss Daisy".

“The ref made a bad call,” he said.
