Story highlights

Salman Khan and Somy Ali dated for a few years before they went their separate ways and Salman started dating Aishwarya Rai while shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam'.

Actress Somy Ali who came to India to make a career in Hindi films and get closer with her “crush” Salman Khan has now shared her own #MeToo story.

In a shocking revelation, Somy took to Instagram to tell the world that she was “sexually abused during childhood”. She said that she, at the age of five, was assaulted by her house-help.

She wrote: “As a survivor of sexual abuse at the age of 5 and rape at 14, I would like to salute all those that have spoken up and plan on doing so. I know it is very difficult to do it because I have been there and it took me many years to be able to talk about it. It takes immense amount of courage to share this with the world. It’s even harder when you tell those that are close to you and they are supposed to protect you, yet they do nothing. I have been there too and it hurts like hell. But I want these survivors to know it is truly liberating and completely worth it. Do not let the nonbelievers stop you. This is your truth. Do not ever be afraid to speak your truth. Do not let this opportunity pass you. This is a moment that has been long overdue for all of us. This is your chance to be heard and finally obtain justice. I believe you."

Somy is most famous as Salman Khan’s ex-girlfriend. The two dated for eight years before Salman was said to have cheated on her with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Salman met with Aishwarya on the sets of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.’

Somy couldn’t take the heartbreak and thus left India for Florida where she was staying before she came to make a career in Bollywood. Somy is originally from Pakistan and has found an NGO called No More Tears (NMT) that helps women who have been sexually abused.
