#MeToo: Aamir Khan to not produce Gulshan Kumar biopic Mogul

Aamir Khan has now distanced himself from Gulshan Kumar biopic Mogul in the wake of #MeToo campaign in India as director of the film Subhash Kapoor has been accused of attempting rape on actress Geetika Tyagi. In a statement issued by Aamir, his banner will no more produce the film. Earlier, the film was being produced by both Aamir and T-Series.

The statement reads: 

“Two weeks ago, when traumatic #MeToo stories began emerging, it was brought to our attention that someone we were about to begin work with has been accused of sexual misconduct. Upon enquiry, we found that this particular case is sub-judice and that the legal process is in motion. We are not an investigative agency, nor are we in any position to pass judgement on anyone - that is for the police and judiciary to do. So, without casting any aspersions on anyone involved in this case, and without coming to any conclusions about these specific allegations, we have decided to step away from this film.”

Subhash Kapoor of the fame ‘Jolly LLB’ has been accused of attempting to rape actress Geetika Tyagi in 2012. A case was filed against Subhash in 2014. A video has also been circulating in social media where Geetika can be seen slapping the director in the presence of his wife. 
Following the complaint, Subhash was arrested and then released on bail. 

When asked what he feels about Aamir’s withdrawal from the project, Subhash said, “Since matter is sub-judice, I intend to prove my innocence in the court of law. But I do want to raise a question – is secretly filming a crying woman without her consent and knowledge and uploading it on social media, not harassment or abuse?”

T-Series head Bhushan Kumar also spoke on the issue and said, “With the on-going proceedings against the director that have been brought to our notice, everyone at T-Series has decided to not work with the director.”
