Legendary Jazz drummer Jimmy Cobb dies at 91

Legendary Jimmy Cobb died at the age of 91. He was the last surviving member of the ensemble sextet of Miles Davis’ iconic album, ‘King of Blue’. 

He died on Sunday of lung cancer at his home in Manhattan. 

The news was announced by his wife Eleana Tee Cobb in a Facebook post. 

‘King of Blue’ was considered as one of the greatest jazz records of all time. Jimmy Cobb gained massive fame after the album came out. It received rave reviews from critics. It is in fact regarded as the best-selling jazz album in history. It was certified quintuple-platinum last year. Kind of Blue also was honored as a national treasure by the US House of Representatives.

Jimmy Cobb worked on several other Miles Davis’ albums including Sketches of Spain, Someday My Prince Will Come, Miles Davis at Carnegie Hall, and The Complete Blackhawk.

Jimmy Cobb was a self-taught musician who made his professional debut recording with Earl Bostic and went on to collaborate with such artists as Dinah Washington, Billie Holiday, Pearl Bailey, Clark Terry, Dizzy Gillespie, Cannonball Adderly, Wynton Kelly, Stan Getz, Wes Montgomery and many more.
