Late iconic singer Aretha Franklin allegedly owes IRS $8 million in back taxes and penalties

Iconic singer Aretha Franklin who died in August this year, allegedly owes the United States’ Internal Revenue Service (IRS) a whopping $8 million in back taxes and penalties. 

According to legal documents reported in TMZ, the estate of ‘Queen of Soul’ owes more than $6.3 million in back taxes from 2012 to 2018, and an additional $1.5 million in penalties. 

However, David Bennett of Thav Gross PC who is the attorney for Franklin's Estate, says the Estate disputes the claim as Aretha paid off the vast majority of her debt before she died. He says, "The Estate is diligently working to resolve any remaining issues."

According to the report, the year in question also includes the current year 2018. As the current year is still on and no tax computation can be made before the financial year completes -- it raises some serious doubts in the minds of her fans and those managing her account.
