Karan Johar's next 'Takht' will be grand reveals director, calls it 'K3G of the Mughal Era'

We informed you of Karan Johar’s next directorial 'Takht' planned for 2020 with a dream cast including actors like Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Anil Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar and others. 

As we obviously get excited to see this cast together, possibly for the first time -- Karan called it “the K3G of the Mughal era, ” sending us 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum' lovers in a euphoria. 

Talking about the film in an interview with a website, Karan said, "It's about two warring brothers and it's based on facts" indicating the rumoured plot that its based on the life of Shah Jahan’s kids Aurangzeb and Dara Shikoh.

According to history, Dara Shikoh was the eldest of Shah Jahan’s sons and the rightful heir of the Mughal empire, however, Aurangzeb killed his elder brother and imprisoned father to take the throne.  

In the film, we told you that Ranveer Singh will play Dara Shikoh and Vicky Kaushal his younger sibling, Aurangzeb who ends up on the throne in the end. According to reports, Alia will play the love interest of Ranveer while Kareena will play Shah Jahan’s beloved daughter, Jahanara Begum and sister to both Ranveer and Vicky’s characters. 

Speaking about 'Takht', Karan revealed, "It's like the K3G of the Mughal era. But it's more extreme, there is more betrayal. It has the tropes of court politics. It's so rich in texture."

"I'm really petrified. It's not the scale. It's also the relationship dynamics," he further added.

Speaking about the stellar cast, Karan said, "It's an unusual mix of talent. They are actors who have walked the parallel path, we have the superstar dynamic with Kareena (Kapoor), there's Anil Kapoor who I have never directed before - but each actor fits the part to the tee. It's not that I have gone to them because I have access. It's a strange dichotomy. Each one has never played a part like this and yet each one fit it perfectly."

“I would be lying if I didn't admit that the comparison is very challenging. I love Sanjay's aesthetic. The comparison scares me but I hope I can find my own voice. I hope I'm not doomed by comparison," Karan was quoted as saying. 

'Takht' is slated to release in 2020.
