Karan, apparently, made fun of a hat from Arunachal Pradesh that Kirron Kher donned for a talent show, in which both Karan and Kirron serve as co-judges.

Karan Johar was caught in a cross of words after he posted a video from his latest episode of a talent show, in which he was accused of hurting the sentiments of the people of Assam.

What would look a funny banter between co-judges Karan Johar and Kirron Kher, who judge the reality show together along with Malaika Arora Khan (who was absent from the last episode), turned ugly after a user took to Twitter to call out the disrespect to their culture.

In the video, Karan can be seen laughing at Kirron for wearing a spiked bamboo hat. Karan teased her for it and said, "oh my god, what is that on your head?" to which, Kher replied, "People from Arunachal Pradesh have brought it for me and they have got this for you. Why are you not wearing your hat.” This went a tad further when Karan replied, "Because you have guts, I don't."

Karan went on and said, "You are looking you are going to break into some kind of qawwali." Following which, Kirron Kher said, "How can I break into a qawwali in a bamboo hat. What's wrong with you? You don't know the states of this country."

Soon after the video was posted on Instagram and Twitter, a user pointed out that the hat has cultural significance and wrote: “Dear @karanjohar the Japi and Gamusa are signs of respect and love. When someone gifts you one, you don't make fun of it, even if it does not go with fashion. Your video hurt the emotions of #Assamese people. Just informing, in case you didn't know it already.”

The user also wrote to the channel who had presented its co-judges with the accessory and wrote: “Dear @ColorsTV, when you provide such things to your judges, it would make sense to educate them about the importance of these objects, in case they don't know. Signs of respect aren't meant to be made fun of. This will be on, cos this was your set.”

Karan was soon to admit his mistake and apologised. He wrote: "You are absolutely right and I would like to apologise if I have hurt any sentiments.....it was purely unintentional and came from a place of no knowledge which is absolutely no excuse....am extremely sensitive to the different cultures of our land and I am very sorry....Also have deleted the insta post!"
