Sony plans on developing more Spider-man spinoffs.

There will be time before we can go back to the movies but Sony has come up with a name for its Spider-Man Marvel movie universe amid lockdown.

Sony's various movies based on Marvel characters now have an official universe name. Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios currently share the rights to putting the character of Spider-Man on the big screen.

This has come to effect after a new deal was struck following a tense round of negotiations.

In addition to his appearances in MCU movies like last year's ‘Avengers: Endgame’, Tom Holland's Spider-Man also stars in solo movies produced by Sony, like the ‘Endgame’ follow-up, ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’.

Ever since ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’, Sony has been keen on developing their own shared universe of movies starring Marvel characters - namely, Spider-Man villains.

But after the film didn’t do well, they dropped the plan. Then came the Spider-Man deal with Marvel and the surprise success of ‘Venom’ and ‘Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse’. This would lead Sony to begin developing more Spider-Man spinoffs, including Morbius starring Jared Leto - a movie that has since been confirmed as also connecting with the MCU thanks to its trailer's surprise reveal of Michael Keaton's Vulture.

So the need for a name arises and just like Marvel has MCU, Sony’s arm will be called Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters.

As for movie releases, Sony has three planned movies in their Universe of Marvel Characters set to release. First is ‘Morbius’, set to release in March 2021, followed by June's ‘Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage’, and then the yet-to-be-titled ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ sequel, now releasing November 5, 2021.
