Like Kate Middleton and Princess Diana, Meghan Markle gets a flower named after her

Meghan Markle, who is soon to turn a mother for the first time, has reason to cheer. The Duchess of Sussex now has a flower in Britain named after her. This is not happening for the first time as the other royals, too, have a flower named in their honour. 

The honour was given to Meghan by the Royal Horticultural Society. She will have a purple-pink clematis flower that only blooms twice a year named after her.

The flower will thus be called ‘clematis Meghan’. The flower blooms in the late spring or early summer and during fall. The flower also has a connect with Harry and Meghan’s love story as they got married around the time of late spring, exactly when the flower blooms.

According to the official announcement on the Royal Horticultural Society’s website, it says, "Named after the most recent addition to the royal family (an Prince Harry's bride), 'Meghan' is an exquisite new large-flowering clematis that will usually offer two flowering seasons each year - the first being the most prolific in late spring or early summer (around the time of their wedding), but then again in early autumn. The flowers are a rich and opulent magenta-purple, so they will really make an impact when planted in borders or larger pots."

Among others who have flowers in their honour, Meghan’s late mother-in-law Princess Diana had a white and pink dahlia and a hot pink clematis to her name and Queen Elizabeth has a beautiful pink rose. Kate has a white and purple clematis to her name. 

The Duchess will soon move into her new home with husband Prince Harry as they wait for the arrival of their first child.
