Joaquin Phoenix starrer 'Joker' gets eight-minute standing ovation at Venice Film Festival

As the Warner Bros’ ‘Joker’ saw its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival while competing in a category, the reviewers sat still so as to not miss any of that magic on the screen. Starring Joaquin Phoenix in Todd Philips directorial, the film gives a new meaning to DC’s biggest villain. 

As the film ended, it got an eight-minute standing ovation amid shouts of “Bravo!” at its conclusion.

The response to the film also predicts a nod for Joaquin in Best Actor category of Oscars 2020. 

2019 ‘Joker’ is different than its original as it stands in a unique standalone story that introduces Joaquin as Arthur Fleck, a man struggling to find his way in Gotham’s fractured society. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night, but finds the joke always seems to be on him. 

Caught in an existential-style crisis between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events.

Meanwhile, the director described his take on Arthur at the festival as “a guy who is searching for identity who mistakenly becomes a symbol. His goal genuinely is to make people laugh and bring joy to the world.” 

He also mentioned earlier that his film is different from DC’s villain’s story. 

‘Joker’ will release on October 2.
