Story highlights

Many Bollywood celebs have spoken up on the protests with many A-listers keeping quiet on the issue.

It's rare to see a Bollywood A-lister open up on the ongoing demonstrations by students at various educational institutes of the country against the Citizenship Amendment Act. After Rajkummar Rao, Vicky Kaushal, Taapsee Pannu, Anurag Kashyap and many other Bollywood actors and filmmakers spoke against police brutality on students, Hrithik Roshan is the latest to join the list.

In a tweet, Hrithik addressed the ongoing issue and wrote, "As a parent and a citizen of India, I am deeply saddened by the unrest across various educational institutions of our country. I hope and pray for peace to return as soon as possible. Great teachers learn from their students. I salute the words youngest democracy."

Hrithik, however, chose to steer clear of mentioning Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) -- the reason why students started protesting against, in the first place.

Noted personalities from the Malayalam film industry have also spoken up against the central government's decision to roll out the Citizenship Amendment Act.

Hollywood actor John Cusack also spoke against violence as he shared viral videos of students being heckled and mistreated by the police.
