Golden Globes 2022: Kate Winslet, Jeremy Strong, Rachel Zegler pick acting awards

It’s a sullen night in Hollywood as far as Golden Globes is concerned as the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced winners of this year’s Golden Globes without much fanfare. There was no media or celebrities in attendance for the event as it takes place for the first time since celebs boycotted the organisation for its discriminatory practices. 

The announcement of Golden Globes 2022 winners happened without a red carpet ceremony this year. It was revealed on Twitter with no live coverage. 

As for the controversy around HFPA, the body has been in a scandal since the 2021 show when it was recognised that HFPA had no Black members and participated in questionable business practises. Then, the regular broadcaster, NBC pulled out of the telecast for this year’s ceremony, and since then the HFPA has diversified its membership.

As opening remarks, HFPA President Helen Hoehne said, “We’re going to be outspoken about what we’re learning and challenge others to join us with members from more than 50 countries. We have a unique place in the awards universe.” 

This year, Netflix’s 'The Power of the Dog' and Focus Features 'Belfast' led all film nominees with seven nods. On the TV side, HBO’s 'Succession' topped all other shows with five nominations.
