Here's why Priyanka Chopra gave friend Meghan Markle's baby shower a miss

Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle threw an intimate baby shower in New York for close friends and associates on Wednesday. Celebrities like Amal Clooney, Serena Williams, Abigail Spencer were spotted at the event but actress Priyanka Chopra was conspicuous of her absence. 

One can recall that Priyanka attended Meghan's wedding to Prince Harry last year in March. The actress is known to be close to the Duchess who was formerly an actress. On Wednesday, as Meghan threw a baby shower at a hotel in New York, guests were clicked while leaving the venue post the bash. Meanwhile, Priyanka posted a sunny selfie from Beverly Hills the same day. 

Turns out, Priyanka could not be a part of Meghan's special day as she had prior work commitments in Los Angeles. She was busy with meetings for the memoir that she is writing. 

The baby shower was also attended by Jessica Mulroney, designer Misha Nonoo, makeup artist Daniel Martin. 

The hotel in which Meghan hosted the shower apparently runs US$75,000 per night. 

Meghan is expecting her first child with husband Prince Harry. The baby is due in April. This trip to the US is her first after the wedding in May 2017. She married the royal at Windsor Castle in the UK. Prince Harry is Queen Elizabeth's grandson and sixth in line to the British throne.

Meghan and Priyanka first met a TV actress' gala dinner and then stayed in touch. Terming it as 'friendship at first sight', Priyanka had stated that the two had bonded over common interest in the field of gender equality.
